Outta Time
Saved by the Bell alumnus Mario López stars as a college soccer
player with a bitter streak who gets caught up in grand criminal schemes when
he signs up for a science lab internship and instead becomes a fugitive from
cops and crooks alike after receiving a sealed cooler containing...ah, but that
would be telling. The budget is low and the acting grade C at best, but
director Lorena David (Extreme Dating) stages one or two genuinely
impressive stunts, and the script, by newbies Scott Duncan and Ned Kerwin,
manages to skillfully maintain the plot's central mystery all the way to the
end. Incidental dramatic beats are often unbelievable, however, especially a
contrived romance between López and the beautiful runaway he conveniently runs
into (former Miss USA Ali Landry). John Saxon slums it as the evil scientist.
Though sporadically enjoyable, the film would be best watched for free on
cable.
