The Wash

If it had anything that even approached the vaguest vicinity of a plot, The Wash might be a cool diversion for a Saturday afternoon at the mall. Instead, Snoop Dogg (as Dee Loc) and Dr. Dre (as Sean) let their natural chemistry go completely to waste in this meandering non-comedy from Friday co-scribe DJ Pooh. Not helping things any is a DJ who keeps announcing the latest single by Dre and Snoop; does no one notice that Dee Loc and Sean bear an uncanny resemblance to the rappers on the radio? Mostly, they're too busy goofing off and doing absolutely nothing at their alleged jobs at the eponymous car-cleansing facility. When a kidnapping plot finally materializes during the film's last quarter, it makes you long for what might have been: For 15 minutes or so, we get a too-short Ruthless People N Tha Hood. Shaq and Pauly Shore show up to remind us that at least we're not watching Kazaam or Jury Duty, and an uncredited Eminem steals the show as a disgruntled former employee. He's so over the top in a film where everyone's laid-back that his scenes kick-start a little bit of life into the chronically stoned environment.
