In those cases, a difference *can* be made, for better or for worse... it's pessimism, self-defeat, silence, indifference, back-tracking and self-censorship which shows that a lot of people aren't as informed, brave, or committed to *any* particular thought as they think they are. And *that's* idiotic when you live in The United States in 2006. Nothing wrong with opinions, as long as the people expressing them are unafraid to also be vocal and/or bare some cajones with actual presence where and when it really counts – despite what your beliefs are. Thankfully we live in a country where a little more is required of such trotted-out, tarted-up "proof." I do go back and forth, you know? My smarter half (the one that's also thinner, and that quit smoking 10 years ago, and that doesn't weep hysterically throughout each episode of "Animal Cops" I stumble on) tells me to log right off of the internet when I see hateful, arrogant nonsense being spouted. The other half (a hideous creature by any account) plays right into the bullshit and dignifies the spew by commenting in response! "How can I sit back...?!" and all that. But I always end up upset that I bothered. Nobody wins.
