Tanks A Boonch

I really, really like the idea of a holiday where the tradition is to think about what we’re thankful for. Certainly, as I sit here alone in this apartment I can barely afford because I have no steady income, living in a place I nearly despise, thousands of miles from any loved ones and scores of miles from most friends, it would be more than easy to enunciate many grievances.

It’s better to focus on the good things.

I am thankful, foremostly, that even though my father may never again be in 100% health, he’s a lot more resilient than early prognoses might have had it.

I am thankful that within the next few weeks (starting tomorrow), I will be working on three acting projects, and that Bryan, Sean, and Jimmy respected me enough to bring me on board their respective projects.

I am thankful that the U.S.A. has come so far that we can actually elect as our leader someone named “Barack Hussein Obama” simply because he was a better candidate for the position. I’m thankful that he already seems to know what he’s doing.

I’m thankful someone finally made a live-action Batman movie right, and that I’m going to meet most of those involved next week.

I’m thankful to the members of LAFCA for voting me in a year and a half ago, and the privileges it gets me this time of year.

As much as I would enjoy having a salary right now, I’m thankful not to be working for people who don’t want me to do any of the stuff I’m good at.

I’m thankful that I filled up my car’s tank for only just over twenty bucks yesterday.

I’m thankful for my family, and wish they weren’t so far.

I’m thankful, despite the loneliness of the season, to those three who did reach out — all of whom, coincidentally enough, are the folks I tend to hang with at the LA Film Festival each year.

I’m thankful to my readers, though the vast majority of you remain silent and anonymous from my perspective.

Granted, I’ll be more thankful when I’m making a living again. But those’ll do for now.

  • Gah! We are selfish thoughtless people!

Next time you are without a place to go give us a call – we might just be away from computer and wrapped up in family craziness.

Maybe we can arrange a Pererro (and affiliated friends and such) Christmas Party or something. That would be fun.
