Developing…

It certainly was eye-opening who showed up at my OC farewell party. Nobody from OC proper…just two blog friends of mine. Both arguably “right of center.”

I’ve been wondering about a lot of things recently. So many of my fellow travelers on the left like to tell me what I should and shouldn’t do — buy better clothes, better furniture, give up my toy collection, etc…while those on the right take me as I am. They know that in their minds, I’m very wrong on some issues, yet we agree to disagree over beers or tequila shots.

And I have to say that recently, they’ve had some good points. True, they ran lousy candidates last time around…but is spending our way out of debt really the answer? Would it be in your personal life? As for those wars we on the left supposedly opposed…it looks like our candidate is pursuing the same course as the last president, no?

It’s no secret to some of you that many of the people in this world I love the most are direct relatives of George W. Bush. I regret that I’ve hurt them with rhetoric that got out of hand. Simple disagreements on policy should never degenerate into the kind of name-calling I’ve indulged in. I am sorry.

And what’s with this myth that liberals get all the good women? All these years I’ve tried to be a sensitive guy, and where has it gotten me? Nowhere. Stomped on. Endlessly told “there’s no spark.” I put myself second and get screwed. Fine. Time to be a man. If whiny bitches don’t get that, so be it.

Make no mistake: I’m not going to become some Republican flack, any more than I was a Democrat flack before. I’m too independent for that, and besides, sociocons get too fucking nervous about bad language.

But South Park conservative? That term doesn’t seem so bad any more.

I’m tired of apologizing to my English relatives every time my country acts in its self-interest. The U.S. is more moral and discerning with its power than any other major nation in history. Deal with it. I love this country and have never wanted to live anywhere else.

I respect our president, but am starting to realize that he’s wrong. Obviously I was no McCain fan, either…but if Romney wants to try again, and promises not to force his Mormonism on people (he does believe in freedom of religion, after all, not freedom FROM religion), I can see giving him a shot next time. Sure, he doesn’t agree with me about gay marriage, but I think the need for a solid businessman in charge overrides that concern.

Rightie friends…you were more “rightie” than I ever gave you credit for. Now buy some beers to celebrate, dammit!

And remember this date as one most significant.

It would have been better if you were able to get the post to read 12:01am. But you still need to change your clothes. JK!!!!!

Interesting post…with plenty to react to/think about.
As an independent-minded soul, any apologising to English relatives was surely your choice? If you disagree, you say so – no?

    Best wishes
    Tony

Ah well. Time for me to keep off this kind of web-site. Younger person’s pastime.

Ok, we were really late. But you know… we’re always late. Sometimes days late.

As the T-shirt says “Come to the Dark Side… We have cookies!”

Julie, I consider what you and David came to to be the official after-party.
