In case you’re searching…

Tonight, I was confronted by Rebbecca Schoenkopf, who apparently searches her name online on a regular basis. Not being wired at all times, I didn’t have exact quotes in my arsenal. But here is what I wrote earlier about CityBeat:

“An expensive “relaunch” gave the paper cosmetic changes that were all reversed a few months later, and Rebecca Schoenkopf, whose strength as a writer is first-person pieces, became editor and wrote a cover story that was just a bullet-point piece of bits of advice her mom gave her. I grant you, I would rather read that than the OC Weekly’s umpteenth report on the Capistrano School District, but it’s still not cover-story material.”

I stand by that. If it was a super-popular edition of the paper, God bless it…but if I were editor in chief, I would never have greenlit it. Period. And would have lived or died by that call.

I don’t blame her for the paper’s demise…I blame those who fired Appleford. End of story. After that, it was inevitable.

Oh, and Rebecca, if you’re reading this…don’t think we weren’t able to trace the IP addresses of the “anonymous” negative comments about me on the OCW blog shortly after I got hired.

Update: while this is really getting too insidery and I probably shouldn’t have even posted it, Rebecca says in comments below that she has never left anonymous comments. In which case, I am in the wrong…and someone really, really wanted me to believe she had.

I’ve never posted anonymously in my life, Luke. It was good to see you last night.

  • Oh, that Rebecca that specializes in first person writing. I missed that before. Neat.

Do you guys like feud? I thought you both basically got the same treatment.

David, I had thought we were cool until I started getting anonymous comments on my OC blog posts that appeared to be coming from her. If they weren’t, then I am in the wrong, and they were from someone who, for whatever reason, wanted me to think they were and did a pretty good job of it.
