Just a quick word, and I won’t do this often…

Articles like the long TNA piece and my festival blogging are written because I want to write them, and get credentialed for them in order to do so, but in happier times I would have been paid for them by some publication or other. Times are tight and that doesn’t happen so much any more.

If you feel that any of this stuff is as good as something you’ve read in a magazine or newspaper, please consider making a Paypal donation via the button on the left side of your screen. It’ll help pay for my subway fare to and from AFI Fest, if nothing else. And every little bit helps.

I’ll shut up about this now for a while.

I think it would be great if you could make some steadt money from your blog. How do other bloggers go about getting a steady stream of income, subscription for five or ten or more a month? I see an ad for a private jet. Sumptuous.

Other bloggers get better ads sometimes — and some dress their blog up with bells and whistles that to me make it unreadable: highlighting keywords that open mini-windows when you mouse over them; moving ads that cover up parts of the text until they stop or you find the tiny “x” to click; I’m sure you’ve seen some of those.

Then guys like Michael J. Totten vehemently suggest tipping at the end of each article. He travels to war zones on his own dime, though.

The ads I have are fairly basic, and generated based on content. Could tell you more, but they have rules similar to those of Fight Club as far as that goes.

Yes, thank you. And thanks for the heads-up here – my notifications go to a different email that I don’t check most of the time, especially when I’m almost 24-7 (or at least 12-7) at a film fest.

    Also from Pete!
