This’ll be quick and easy, since I can mostly link you to original reviews (again, for my UK/international readers – if links don’t work, go to eonline.com and then click on “movies”):
1. Antichrist. See review.
2. Avatar. See review.
3. Fantastic Mr. Fox. See review.
4. Crank: High Voltage. See review.
5. Up. No review, but possibly my favorite Pixar movie, if only because I’ve never ever seen a movie about an old man who flies his house to South America, where his childhood idol tries to kill him with a pack of talking dogs.
6. Ingourious Basterds. See review.
7. District 9. See review.
8. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I still cannot, for the life of me, understand anyone who came out of this movie disappointed that it was not what they expected. I get not liking it — I just don’t get being surprised that basically the same movie with twice as much of everything was in any way unexpected or shocking. See review.
9. (500) Days of Summer. No review. The only thing that would have made this review even truer to life for me is if the lead couple never actually had sex. The whole “girl who’s not ready for a relationship with you, but is then married only weeks later” routine is one I am all too familiar with in real life, not to mention I think it’s a good step up for Zooey Deschanel by deconstructing the endearingly quirky type she’s played for too long. I remain dubious that it’s as insightful about men, though.
10. Where the Wild Things Are. See review.
Runners up, in no particular order: Paranormal Activity, Zombieland, Thirst, The Hurt Locker, Watchmen, Moon, Observe & Report, Deadgirl, The Cove, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Star Trek, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
