RIP HST

Hunter S. Thompson, no relation, just shot himself.

Though I haven't read his stuff, I know I ought to. I did act in a student film, directed by one Justin Stone, that was loosely interpreted from Fear and Loathing.

His existence always struck me as a good thing. His loss, yet another suckage point for the Bush II years.

belated I know,

but I was sad he shot himself - although not as sad as I would be for other key figures from my awakening years, HST always said that the only reason he didn't feel totally trapped in this life was knowing he could use the suicide ticket out whenever he liked.

I still think the opening four paras or so of Fear & Loathing just kicked a whole bunch of us into realsing that drugs weren't just a flowers in the hair thing, or its antithesis - the Manson bummer trp. - and his scathing attacks on politicians and their ways was cool - I never did buy into him being too much like Duke in Doonesbury.
