The News

I will not be moving to Connecticut. Not this year, anyway.

As some have deduced, I was flown out to Stamford last week by World Wrestling Entertainment to interview for a TV writer position. They put me up, fed me, and interviewed me several times.

I was one of about 20 finalists. As of today, I got the call, that I didn't make the final cut.

It was nonetheless a very cool experience. More later, but I thought everyone would want to know the bottom line first.

Ahhhh, bummer. That really is pretty damn cool, though. I mean, being in the runnning and getting that far adn everything. Though I'm sure losing out sucks reeeeal bad, too.

That would have been WICKED COOL!!!!!!!!!! I'm a bit envious or jealous (which is it?) when I read that?!? I guess I have to wait and read what happened and who you've met there? The WWE actually did all that for you; flying you there and making you feel right at home? How nice!

The outcome is not what I was expecting, but I'm still stoked that someone on that level recognized your talent to this extent. May this keep you fired up about keep getting your best scripts in the hands of new people. You have some killer scripts in your arsenal, currently hidden away from most of the world... and I would love to see 'em get made or a book to be written from them first, if you're so inclined. Press on, Mr. Thomspon!

Too bad about not getting a dream job, but at least I've been saved from the hassle of having to drive three hours to visit you every now and then. Silver lining!

Worst decision the WWE ever made.

They're frickin' idiots if they think there's someone else better suited for that job! Oh, they'll rue the day!

But glad that it was overall a cool experience.

On the upside, if you got that far, maybe they'll think of you next time they have an opening. It sounded like a pretty awesome experience at least. Sounded way cooler than any job interview I've ever been on.

ggrrrrrrrr,

but... the turnover being so high - I wouldn't be surpised if they come back to their runner up candidates - IF they continue to show interest in ways that demonstrate commitment. The job I have enjoyed the past 8 years was won by someone else initially, she quit after 3 months and they offered me a £3,000 a year pay hike on her salary to pick it up...finishing in two months on double that. clouds - linings - forever the cycle continues

The question is...where would you like to write for? Raw, Smackdown or ECW?

Or, since TNA is just beginning and probably might expand in the near future, they will probably be hiring. But, WWE is global so, they have stability and security...and probably an awesome health benefits plan...

where would you like to write for? Raw, Smackdown or ECW?

That is a question I was asked, and my answer was more or less as follows:

I'd probably be most at home on Raw, because it has the largest percentage of comedy skits, and I've certainly written those before. However, Smackdown is actually my favorite of the three shows, so that would have its advantages in that respect, and ECW feels directionless right now -- since the whole show was based around Big Show and Heyman, both of whom are now gone -- so it would be a unique challenge at this point to help determine its direction.

But whichever one you work on, it turns out you go to every TV show anyway. If it's not the one you specifically write for, you help out in other ways.

The advantage of TNA is that it doesn't travel much, and is based in Florida. Would much rather live there than Stamford!

However, I think Vince Russo and Jim Cornette pretty much write the whole show.

I would think that as a TV writer, you wouldn't be travelling with them?

Posted by: Edwin A. Santos at January 26, 2007 1:43 PM

Where do you think they film the TV shows? Different arenas each week, and live shows need constant rewrites.

Posted by: LYT at January 26, 2007 3:03 PM

whichever was the silly scifi version should be hiring you RIGHT NOW.

Why don't you post some of your story lines? I've dabbled off and on myself - starting with my own debut foray in the ring including the original El Santo back in the day.
