Depp-a-dee-doodah
My Pirates 3 review is now online. Here's the lead:
You can say many things about Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, but you can’t say it doesn’t give you your money’s worth. For 167 minutes, you get familiar characters, elaborate set pieces, visual spectacle, multiple double-crosses (some genuinely unexpected), epic battles, thoroughly un-Disney-like blood and guts, and some impressively weird moments that would never be allowed in any mainstream movie if there were a doubt its financial success is all-but-guaranteed. What there isn’t is a slow moment; unlike its cinematic predecessor Dead Man’s Chest, this third installment doesn’t waste your time.
And the whole thing is here.

Well I finally saw pirates 3 and it was a pretty good film. It went deeper into davy jones's origins which I thought 2 nicely left us hoping for. It kept the themes of double crosses and reluctant alliances that really were the backbone of all three films.
The plot had a few problems. Did the pirate's song from the beginning actually do something or was it purely symbolic? And davy's teleportation abilities did come up as he managed to visit the black pearl's brig despite it being in the "near inpenitrable" shipreck cove.
It did seem a little over-convoluted, but I need a second viewing to determine if that is the fault of the script. The second movie had very tight writing and all the different character's motivations interwove beautifully. This one had to tie a bunch of threads but it left a lot dangling. So far I like two better but three might grow on me after more viewings.
