Chek Your Hole

I have the cover story of today's OC Weekly:

It's one of the last days of pick-up shooting for 305, a mockumentary normally described by its creators as "300 meets The Office." One could also make a case that it does with 300 what Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead did with Hamlet, focusing as it does on minor characters in a similar universe: the five incompetent, mostly out-of-shape Spartans who didn't go to Thermopylae, but instead were assigned to guard the secret goat path that ultimately seals the Persian victory and who ran away at the first sign of trouble. Today's shots will embellish a bar-fight scene, making the brawl look like . . . a bigger brawl, with not exactly a cast of thousands, but at least a cast of tens, placed against digital backdrops that evoke 300's visual style, with a Flintstones-like modern spin (these Spartans have pizza delivery and cable TV and drink coffee at Spartanbucks). All this on a budget that co-directors Dan and Dave Holechek hint is "in the four-figure range."

But these twins are used to filmmaking beyond their means. This is already their second feature, and they're only 26. It's also the first to be based on a YouTube short.

When you're done reading it, check out my behind-the-scenes video doc.

L.A. reviews are in for THE LOST

Jim Ridley, LA Weekly:

Sivertson, who made the unjustly panned Lindsay Lohan vehicle I Know Who Killed Me, threads a dense, intriguing web of diseased community around his hateful protagonist, and peoples it with keen supporting players, including Michael Bowen and Ed Lauter as grizzled detectives and Dee Wallace-Stone in one harrowing scene as a dead girl's blotto mom. But Senter's smarmy badass posturing in the lead — an entrance exam for the Crispin Glover School of Thespian Understatement — only brings out the movie's crap nihilism.

Andy Klein, L.A. CityBeat

It’s creepy enough that the near-two-hour running time doesn’t drag, but it’s unpleasant enough that it’s questionable whether you want to put yourself through it. The whole thing revolves around Senter’s portrayal of an obnoxious, arrogant asshole with the seeds of full-on madness ready to blossom at any moment. Senter may look a bit like Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise mashed together, but Ray is so vile and, what’s more, so damned irritating, that it’s hard to believe all the younger townswomen want to boff him. There is, thank goodness, some catharsis near the end; and it’s weirdly nice to see veteran character actor Ed Lauter – trust me, you’d recognize him in a second – actually getting the girl for a change.

Photo fame?

Almost four years ago, I took this photo:
 - Photo Hosted at Buzznet

It appears in the current issue of FANGORIA, in a feature story about THE LOST.

I'm as surprised as anyone to see it it Fango. I wasn't told this would happen, certainly wasn't asked, definitely wasn't paid. But I've talked to them, and they're going to give me credit for it in a future issue. Just wanted everyone to know that this picture of Marc Senter in The Lost, playing Ray Pye, is 100% mine, shot between takes, specifically posed for my camera.

Just to reiterate my policy on photos: I am fine with other websites using photos they find here, provided (a) they don't hotlink, hosting the image themselves; and (b) they credit me and link back to this website.

Print publication for profit is a different issue. I'm lenient on this one because most people involved with THE LOST didn't get paid, and did it out of love.

"If I tell you I'm winning an Oscar, you will agree..."

SNL did a pretty good Daniel Day-Lewis parody last night. But let no-one forget that I did it first...

Off to watch the Oscars now.

I KNOW WHO KILLED ME sets a Razzie Award record.

Yep, Chris Sivertson ended up getting Worst Director...but that's nothing to feel bad about, and here's why...

"I Know Who Killed Me," a major box office flop with $9 million worldwide, won eight of nine Raspberries for which it was nominated, breaking a record of seven wins previously held by "Showgirls" and "Battlefield Earth."

Showgirls and Battlefield Earth are amazing movies. Be proud to be in their company.

Meanwhile, Chris' first movie THE LOST premieres in LA at the Sunset 5 this Friday. Be there at the 7 p.m. show if you want to meet some of those involved. And who knows, maybe Lindsay will stop by to offer support.

Chicago fans - first look at WICKED LAKE coming your way!

Press release follows:

Fever Dreams LLC. is proud to announce the exclusive first sneak peak at a few completed scenes from WICKED LAKE to unveil on Friday, February 29th at the WICKED LAKE panel during the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois. The panel and film clips will be hosted and introduced by WICKED LAKE screenwriter Adam Rockoff, the author of GOING TO PIECES: THE RISE & FALL OF THE SLASHER FILM (McFarland Publishing). Mr. Rockoff is currently scripting Fever Dreams’ FLESH FOR THE BEAST 2.

WICKED LAKE is a sensual supernatural shocker directed by Zach Passero, based on an original screenplay by Adam Rockoff. WICKED LAKE is a supernatural tale about four mysterious, attractive girls venture on a road trip for a relaxing weekend getaway. Unbeknownst to them, two clans of deranged male misfits follow them to their secluded, picturesque lakeside cabin in the mountains. The girls appear to be easy prey for the predatory perverts until the fateful stroke of midnight when all hell, literally, breaks loose! The film’s stellar cast features Robin Sydney (Jack Ketchum’s THE LOST, Masters Of Horror), Carlee Baker, Eryn Joslyn, Eve Mauro, Marc Senter (THE LOST, CABIN FEVER 2), Frank Birney and Tim Thomerson.

Ministry front man and founder, Al Jourgensen has just completed the film’s music score at his 13th Planet Studios in El Paso, Texas where the film was shot. The Grammy-nominated Jourgensen has contributed music to Hollywood blockbusters such as ROBOCOP and Steven Spielberg’s A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLEGENCE. He is considered a true innovator in industrial and aggressive styles of music.

Producer/co-screenwriter Chris Sivertson and his Scattershot Productions co-produced the film with Fever Dreams LLC. Sivertson’s directorial credits include Jack Ketchum’s THE LOST and TriStar’s I KNOW WHO KILLED ME starring Lindsay Lohan. Director Zach Passero is a Texas-based filmmaker who has directed, shot and edited numerous features, commercials and music videos for Al Jourgensen’s Ministry and other bands.

Fever Dreams most recently completed, THE MACHINE GIRL and TOKYO GORE POLICE, both shot in Japan. Fever Dreams’ previous production credits include FLESH FOR THE BEAST, SHADOW: DEAD RIOT and the Japanese co-production DEATH TRANCE. Stay tuned for news and release dates for WICKED LAKE and the soundtrack album.

UPDATED WITH PICS! wrestling talk

My colleague Derek and I were at Monday Night Raw last night, and co-wrote a brief review. Pictures to come.

UPDATE: They're here. Photos by Derek Olson; most of the smart-ass captions by me (and a few by Derek).

Lindsay Lohan accepts the inevitable

...and finally does a nude photoshoot. [check out the slideshow at the link]

Gee, if she'd followed her initial impulse and done a proper striptease in I KNOW WHO KILLED ME without chickening out at the end, maybe this wouldn't have been necessary.

Regardless, enjoy. Black and white seems to do her no favors though.

Britney, hurry up and follow suit.

Max Mohr's dilemma

Posted in a thread below...

******MORAL DILEMMA ALERT******

I just went to the recycling bin, and someone's girlfriend (I assume) threw out a big bag of hentai [Note: animated Japanese porn -- LYT]. Now i realize that taking used pornography out of the garbage is kind of gross.... but is it not a greater sin to waste so many drawn pictures of vaginas?

Not that Max is easily influenced, but he seems to need feedback here. Offer it in comments below.

OKay

I'm not quite sure what this is, but for reasons that will soon become self-evident if you watch it, I love it...

Hootersez!

It took long enough, but after all these years, there's finally a Star Wars figure of Jabba's fat, six-breasted dancer.

So for those of you complaining I didn't include enough fat chicks in the gothla video, here you go.

I almost got a Blockbuster membership tonight

Mainly because I'm tired of renting 24 one disc at a time with Netflix. But BB's prices don't make sense.

$4.79 for a rental. But wait long enough, and that same DVD you want to rent, along with others, will be on sale used, 4 for $20.

If they actually want me to rent, shouldn't the rental price be an obviously better price than that of secondhand purchase? And they wonder why people download.

Hasbro's $100 Cloverfield monster toy revealed

Comes with ten parasites and a Statue of Liberty head. And has 70 joints, apparently. Cool-looking, but worth $100?

Okay, the picture's now hidden below the fold for the benefit of those who, one month after the movie came out, are still trying to be spoiler free. This is what the masses have requested.

But y'all need to see movies sooner if you really want to stay pure. I can't promise it won't happen again. I like to put up purty pitchers when I can.

The Amazing Spiderwick

Jared, Simon, and Mallory are children of divorce, packed up along with mom (Mary-Louise Parker) to a large, decaying country house owned by their family (because of course no-one would have dreamed of actually selling such real estate). There's a small town nearby, but even though it's small, it also has a huge “sanitorium” -- given the context in the movie, it should actually be a sanitarium, for the delusional, rather than sanitorium, for the chronically sick. Regardless, it's for crazy people in this context, and the fact that it's so big in a town so small should be a huge red flag.

It's probably worth mentioning at this point that the movie opens with David Strathairn, of all the people to find in such a movie (John Sayles did some work on the script, so that explains that), working in a room full of skulls and things in jars, making overly startled expressions. It seems he is Mr. Spiderwick, and he has discovered all sorts of invisible magical creatures living in the surrounding countryside. Impressed, he compiled everything he learned about them into a book, which then becomes a dangerous possession, because a Nick Nolte-voiced ogre named Mulgarath want the knowledge contained therein in order to rule the world.

No cards = balls

I lost my wallet the other day. It was found and returned to me, but I had to cancel all my credit and ATM cards.

Not being able to buy what I want when I want sucks. Especially at a sushi place where you don't always know what the final bill will be.

However did our parents manage?

Good stuff coming to the blog soon. I have a film shoot tomorrow, and a new "Derek and LYT" Youtube video coming soon that's laden with sexy goth girls.

UPDATE: Well, so much for the film shoot. Costar called in sick at the last minute.

OC Weekly today (slightly edited)

Today's issue is "The Sex Issue." I'm a bit out of my element, but I went ahead and did a brief recap of my short sexual/romantic history. On the vague offchance that anyone who was part of it is reading, PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT NAME NAMES. I'm pretty sure I managed to preserve the anonymity of anyone who might want it [this sentence was taken the wrong way earlier - I in no way meant to imply that those involved cannot or should not talk about it if they wish to]

None of it's news to my regular blog readers anyhow. For you guys, I have a two part interview with Bobcat Goldthwait.

Though he doesn't like people to have a limited perception of him—he once set Jay Leno's chair on fire to make that point—he doesn't mind when people recognize him as Zed, saying, "It'd be like being Tonya Harding and getting mad if people recognized you as that chick who attacked the other skater. . . . I was in those movies; you know, it's not like I'm gonna go, 'How dare you! I'm an artiste now!'" For perspective, he adds, "if I ever meet Sandy Duncan, there's no way in hell I'm not gonna tell her how much I love The Million Dollar Duck."

Part one of the interview is HERE.

And then there's a whole bonus second installment HERE.

THE LOST - theatrical dates

As you all should know, THE LOST drops on DVD March 18. But as has been long-rumored and just confirmed, there will be theatrical dates too.

Fangoria is reporting that the movie will play New York Monday-Wednesday, February 11-13 at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema, and in Los Angeles Friday, Feb. 29-Thursday, March 6 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 Theatres.

The movie was shot on film, and deserves a big-screen viewing. I would also imagine that if you come out to the Sunset 5 opening night, there might be some familiar faces in attendance...

Note: Fangoria also has a feature on THE LOST scheduled for the issue that'll come out just in time to tie in with the L.A. date.
